Situated in Brockwell park is this lovely family run buisness. It is right next to Brockwell Lido pool. You can either go for a swim, and then pop in and have a healthy snack, or enter via the door of Dulwich Road for a seasonal, tasty meal.
The cafe has recently been taken over by a new company, Wild Garlic, who, after chatting to the owners, I have found out that they love all things seasonal and delicious.
When I first visited, they were refurbing the inside, with a poolside hut serving loevly snacks and drinks to swimmers.
It is a breath of fresh air to have this type of food available. Usually pool cafes serve greasy burgers, or overly priced junk. This place is different. On the various occasions I have visited I have tried lots of juices, all freshly made, and all wonderfull!
I have had one (or 2!) of their freerange burgers, and a chorizo roll. For vegetarians there were halumi rolls too. These were cooked on their BBQ, and my OH said they were the best he has had for a long time.
Also available are a selection of pastries, fairtrade tea and Cola. The coffee they serve is Union, which tasted perfect, and reasonably priced too.
Another pleasant surprise is how they catered for kids. They still have what kids want, Ice cream, Lollies, snacks etc. But they were well thought out brands. LIke Chilly Billy lollies, made from real fruit juice. They also had packets of organic rasins for the little ones.
The owner tells me that when they are fully open, they plan to be very child friendly. Sofas, and play areas for little ones, so mums can pop along for coffee mornings.
He also said once fully open you will be able to go for a meal in the evening too. My tummy is already rumbling in antisipation!
At last, a family friendly, organic, seasonal, foodie friendly, well priced place to eat in Herne Hill!
We live in Croydon, but will definetly travel there, as from what I have already seen, it will be well worth it!
